WELL MINISTRY

HELPING THE NEEDY TODAY TO MEET OTHERS NEEDS TOMORROW

SAM_2044.JPG

Serving the Underserved

WHO WE ARE

We are a non profit service provider that serves the destitutes, underprivileged, and marginalized communities. Our work is still at its infant stage and we hope that the work we are doing now will be a building block to national, regional, and international partnership with our future partners who will support our vision of sustainable self-help.

Our service philosophy is one that seeks to meet the needs of today's needy so they can meet others needs tomorrow. We do not believe that one should continue to rely on others for his well being but that he is able to make use of the provided assistance and the available local resources to build a platform for his personal development overflowing to those around his and beyond.

We do this through Gospel presentation and community Gospel Sowing, sustainable focused income generating projects for low income households, basic education for under-privilege children and adult literacy program for the illiterate adults in their own language and in the official language.

BASIC EDUCATION FOR THE UNDER PRIVILEGE CHILDREN

Providing under privilege children with a platform to read and write

This platform initiative is a project we started in October 2017 this year. We were moved when we heard that Mrs ‘A’ does not her son to go with his friends to the ‘K’ school. Her son replied, “but I want to go to school.” Because of the family financial difficulties, ‘M’ has not been able to attend school. We have thus engaged our friend who is a qualified primary school teacher to give 3 evenings a week to teach ‘M’ phonetics, reading, writing, and mathematics.
We know that there are others like ‘M’ in the neighbourhood. We have encouraged him that if his friends want to come and join him, they are most welcome to do so. The initiative is still at its early stage and we hope to continue doing this giving struggling children a platform to learn the basics of reading and writing. At least when they stated school, would have already got a good foundation.
We hope to get some specialist advice from friends who are familiar with this kind of platform to help us develop and help these children. If this works and if we are able to find a simple, mobile, moving at your own pace model, we hope we can help under privilege children in our target communities. We have met and seen a lot of children in our target communities not going to school and are shepherding somebody else’s animals.
What we really need here is a simple model to help our target children read, write and do simple mathematics, and be literate.
Please keep this in your prayers.

ADULT LITERACY

Enlightening the minds of the Older Generation

Last year (December 2016) we had a group of our target community Elders (those pictured in the photo) come to us and requested that we help them learn to read and write in their own language.
We agreed to help and have since talked with the literacy department if their group could be included in the 2018 literacy program. The area co-ordinator has confirmed that they have been included and we are waiting for its commencement.
We are using the literacy program as a platform for ministry. Since the community is 90% illiterate except for a couple of elders who are able to read in and write in Arabic. We are giving out recorded materials such as the Portable Preacher-man and Carte Memoires with Bible reading, dramas, movies, songs, sermons, etc; but the disadvantage is that they will constantly require recharging. Being literate will greatly help as we can read the Bible together, give out simple bible study materials, songs, tracts, etc. So this platform initiative is a very important project to us.
Because French is the Official Language, we have agreed to add French to the program but this will be at our own cost. We are prepared to budget for a French language Tutor. The French language session will be added on to the local language learning program as it will be cost effective and time convenient.
Lavinia and I will be take responsibility of this program. We have engaged a qualified Primary School teacher. We also have engaged the service of a qualified language Tutor who is also a trained Pastor.
Please keep this in your prayers.

WATER FOR COMMUNITIES

Water pumps for communities without a clean water source

We have another demand for water from a community we are sowing in. It has more than 40 families and they do not have a water source. It’s about 10km from the area we are already sowing in.

Digging wells is quiet an expensive undertaking but it sure does pay off as communities open their homes to receive our visits.

Even though water is a major need in this part of the world, we are also being cautious in employing this platform as we do not desire to be seen as another NGO so we really spend time doing assessment work to determine the benefit it will have in our community evangelism work. We take on the ones we believe will add an impact to our work.

Please keep this in your prayers.

***The photo shows the new water pump installed in one of our local villages that was in real need of a good water source.

EMPOWERING WOMEN

INCOME SOURCE FOR STRUGGLING LADIES

Anna is Lavinia’s friend and she has been given a preacher-man which she and her mum have been listening to loved very much.

Due to her difficult situation, Lavinia cannot afford to look away as she is also our neighbour. Lavinia has therefore tried to start a little tea-house project with her. It’s been 2 months now and the project is running well and has really helped Anne to support her family with a sustainable income source. Not only that as other target ladies are beginning to congregate at the tea-house which is providing an environment to meet and talk.

There are many ladies like Anna and Lavinia has engaged herself in helping struggling families teach their ladies how to mix liquid soap, prepare jam, bake simple ball-cakes & pancakes so our target women can sell and earn something.

We are hoping that this will provide a platform for evangelism so please keep this in your prayers.

EMPOWERING FAMILIES

Goats before Cows

This platform initiative is design to help struggling target families raise animals that can help give them a stable source of income. Some of these families are so poor that they cannot have cows. Our target people economic status is measured by the number of cows one has.
This project works by buying 01 Billy and 04 female goats. It is expected that after the first 06 months the 04 female goats will give 08 kids. And the second 06 months the troupe will give more than 15 kids. We will help the family care for his little goat troupe up to the 2nd 6 months by which time they will have to take full responsibilities.
The responsibility of the families we assist in this project is to give a kid to us every 06 months the new kids are born as their contribution to the program so we can help assist other needed families.
A female goat costs between 15,000 – 20,000 cfa (approximately US$30 – 40). A Billy costs between 40,000 – 60,000 cfa (approximately US$80 – 120).
If all goes well, the program could sustain itself by the time we assist the 6th family. All these families are to donate a goat each and we will have 06 female. All we need to do is to find a Billy.
We have already started the programme with the Diallo family. Their 1st 06 months went well although they had to deal with diseases but all is well. Our next target family is the Bari family who are also Christians but are really struggling with no stable economic base.
Why goats? Goats are much easier to raise than sheep and cows.
Please keep this in your prayers.

SHARING THE GOSPEL

Visiting Gospel Destitute Communities to sow the Gospel

As a Cross Cultural Mission Worker, I embrace our mission mandate very dearly and would see that we do not deviate from it because I believe that a person must be in Christ first before he can order his life in a way that is more meaningful to his family and society bearing results of eternal values. Therefore we do not want to be seen as another Community Development or Relief Organization. However, I can see that there are certain situations that warrant reasonable thinking that will balance my inflexibility with meeting the community needs so that the gospel can penetrate into it and bring to Christ those who have a hidden hunger for the Truth of the Lord Jesus.
